My confession...

Here is my confession for this week. I dislike Alison Sweeney. If you're the snarky type, you're probably thinking, "Well, she doesn't like you too much, either." If you're not, you're probably wondering why I've made this confession.

Like millions of others, I watch the Biggest Loser. I've been keeping up with Daris and Lance, Andrea and Sunshine, Oneal and Stephanie. I cheered when Cheryl opened up a can of whoop-ass on that punching bag, sympathized with Migdalia, and felt the triumph that Sam and Koli have felt. I still can't stand Ali even though she is one of the constants within the show.

Why? Because she appears to take genuine pleasure from others' failure. When she says, "I'm sorry, but you are NOT the biggest loser' she says them with a half smile as if she is suppressing the urge to say 'Nyahnyah, Fatty McFatsterson! You lost! Now get the heck off of my stage!' This woman appears to derive great pleasure from screwing the contestants with the challenges that the producers have dreamt up. Contestants on the show already know that when they see Ali, they're screwed. They alo know that the bigger she smiles, the more pain that they will be in. Does she really need to rub it in?

My prayer for this week is that Alison Sweeney learns how to display compassion.

  1. Reality shows are as exploitative as any that preceded them. Sanford & Son, All in the Family, Good Times, Sex & the City, etc., etc, make me sick. American Idol is the pits. They focus on no talent contestants who cuss out judges if the judges are honest with them and they exploit broken hearts. Biggest Loser is no exception. I refuse to watch it.

  2. I can see why. It definitely is one of those shows that plays upon the heartstrings and tries to tap into the common thread that binds us all. I DO enjoy the fact that it at least tries to be inspirational, and well, it's gotten me off the couch in a few instances.
